Many of Metro Manila’s poorest families are threatened to lose their livelihood in light of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). While the ECQ is important to halt the spread of the virus, it has suspended public transportation and has shut down most commercial establishments, the source of income of many daily wage earners.
SAFER Foundation has opened an appeal for the daily wage earners of Navotas together with Aksyon sa Kahandaan sa Kalamidad at Klima (AKKMA), a platform for DRRM-CCA advocacy.
Your Php500 donation can provide 1 food kit (good for 1 week) to a family of a daily wage earner in Navotas.

Together with the Disaster Preparedness and Responsive Intervention for Victim Empowerment, Inc. (DEPRIVE), AKKMA conducted a community assessment of the financial and non-financial needs of the following Barangays that are deeply devastated and overwhelmed by the current economic situation, one of which is in North Bay Boulevard (North and South).
There are 1,400 families in these communities currently affected by the NCR lockdown. They are Transport workers, Factory and Construction Workers, Vendors and Fish workers. Having no source of income means having no way to access basic necessities and commodities for survival.
We will see a spike in the number of cases and stricter quarantine measures in the coming weeks, and for these communities, this is a matter of higher risks to COVID-19 infection or dying of hunger.
The provision of adequate social protection for the poor is also of interest to the national and local governments in order to maintain peace and order and to combat COVID-19 in the shortest timeframe as possible.
SAFER Foundation appeals to the public to mobilize social safety nets for these families in the form of Food Relief. Bayanihan is more important than ever to help save lives.
Together, we can help build a SAFER Philippines.
