Estudyanteng may tatlong part time job, nakakuha ng scholarship para makapag-aral

Totoong Usapan Episode 005

Hello Angela!

Angela: Hi, everyone!

Sir Vince: Ilang taon ka nung pumunta kayo dito sa US?

Angela: Six years old po ako.

Sir Vince: Six years old. Okay. So, yun. Interviewhin ko ngayon yung aking pamangkin dahil siya ngayon ay second year college na ‘no. So, saang university ka nag-aaral?

Angela: I study at the University of Notre Dame.

Sir Vince: Okay.

Angela: Nasa Indiana po ako.

Sir Vince: Sa Indiana. Ano yung kurso mo doon?

Angela: I am studying finance in the business school.

Angela: Opo. Sixty thousand yung average.

Sir Vince: Sixty thousand per sem? Per year?

Angela: This is per year.

Sir Vince: Per year!? Oh my God! So, halos tatlong milyong piso yun ‘no for one year so in four years, twelve million pesos yun kaya pala nila na maraming nababaon sa utang, sa student loans dito sa America. Okay. So, paano mo natutustusan yun ngayon? Si mommy ba lahat yung nagbayad nun?

Angela: Hindi po. So, yung Notre Dame, may binigay na scholarship sa akin so half yung tuition na binigay nila pero yung thirty thousand, kailangan i-shoulder namin so, nag student loans po ako and the rest, sila mommy.

Sir Vince: Sila mommy. Okay. At anong usapan niyo nila mommy dun sa student loans?

Angela: So, nasa pangalan ko po pero she’ll help me pay them back as long as I’m paying back as well.

Sir Vince: Okay. So, let’s pray that she will help you.

Angela: Yes!

Sir Vince: Okay. And then, so… pero kailangan nba ng tulong ni mommy or bonus na lang yun? What do you think?

Angela: Bonus po siya kasi gusto ko po na ako ang magbabayad ng sarili kong edukasyon, so after, I aim to pay-off my student loans, of course, so that it is not a burden on my family… so, it’s not a burden.

Sir Vince: Kasi, naalala ko, kinausap ko si ate at that time at sabi ko na yung gagawin dapat niya ay yung budget for the school para sa mga anak… ilan ba kayong magkakapatid?

Angela: Tatlo po kami.

Sir Vince: Tatlo! Di ba! Oh my God! What do you feel about that?

We’re gonna take care of her. It’s our turn.

Sir Vince: Okay. That’s good. Tapos, so, you said na nakakuha ka ng scholarship. Paano ka nakakuha ng scholarship?

Angela: So, this is based on my mom’s… my parents’ finances so they see how much  can we afford…

Sir Vince: Okay…

Angela: And then, based on that, they’ll give you how much they think you should pay.

Sir Vince: Okay. Wala namang grade requirement ito?

Angela: To keep the scholarship, kailangan na 3.0 and above so I just have to keep studying and I can keep the scholarship.

Angela: Above 3.0!

Sir Vince: Okay. Sige. Ang alam ko, nagtatrabaho ka…

Angela: Opo.

Sir Vince: Pero nuing pagdating ko dito, nagulat ako na sabi nila, tatlo daw yung trabaho mo.

Angela: Tatlo

Sir Vince: So, paano yun? Nakakapag-aral ka pa ba?

Angela: Opo. So, I break down my schedule so I definitely have class time, study time, and then work time. And the, of course, study comes first so I only work flexible hours a few times a week, not everyday.

Sir Vince: Okay. So, ano yung una mong trabaho?

Sir Vince: Okay.

Angela: And then, I moved on to research, it’s financial research so baka… parang more relevant sa major ko po.

Sir Vince: Okay.

Angela: And then, yung pangatlo, it’s just transcribing government documents. It’s available for everyone.

Angela: Si Bea, my little sister.

Sir Vince: Oh, di ba!? Okay. Maski batang-bata, marunong na. So, Paano naman yan nakakatulong sayo? Sa development mo?

Angela: Well, integrity is important for the jobs just knowing that I’m making my own money and I’m helping and I’m not a financial burden is a very big achievement. And then, yung research, again, it’s helping me. It’s something that will be relevant to my work afterwards and something I can put in my resume so it’s helping me with money but it’s also helping me advance my career.

Sir Vince: Right. Okay. So, may mga naipon ka na ba?

Angela: (laughing) Opo. Meron na.

Sir Vince: Okay at saan mo balak gamitin yung naipon mo?

Angela: Usually, sa gtravel expenses ko ginagamit or if I wanna buy some food, stuff like that… just personal stuff po.

Sir Vince: Mga personal stuff lang. So, hindi mo pa siya naiisip na puwede mong gawing pagsimula for investment, ganyan, hindi pa?

Angela: Meron akong mga little apps on my phone parang investment apps so may konting akong like hinuhulog every month. It’s small right now pero it’s an… it’s an investment.

Sir Vince: Oo… oo… anong investment ito?

Angela: So, I just put in money and it creates a portfolio for me.

Sir Vince: Okay. So, it’s like a mutual fund of sorts.

Angela: Opo.

Sir Vince: Okay. Sige. What can you give them as in terms of advice?

Angela: I’ll do it from the two sides so Filipino and American. So, Filipinos are hardworkers so use that to your advantage. Your family always tells you to study so keep studying. Do your best in classes because it will help you in the long run. And then, for the American part, I think everyone agrees that America is a melting pot. It’s full of opportunities. Everyone wants to be here so take advantage of those opportunities.

Sir Vince: Sige. So, maraming-maraming salamat at thank you. Okay? Ayan! Say hi to your cousins in Australia.

Nephew and nieces: Hi, Ethan! Hi, Jacob!

Sir Vince: Ayan. So, maraming salamat sa inyong panonood at sana i-share niyo ‘tong video na ‘to para maraming matuto na kabataan on how to plan for their future so maraming-maraming salamat.
