The Department of Education Regional Office V held its personal finance management training of trainers in the DepEd regional education learning center in Rawis, Legazpi City on December 5-7, 2018. DepEd invited SEDPI Foundation Inc. (SFI) to facilitate the training.
SFI Executive Director, Ms. Florence Adviento and Senior Program Officer Francesca Magallon facilitated the two-day training. The topics covered were financial life stages, financial planning, budgeting, savings, insurance, debt management, investment, and personal finance and emotions.
The first two sessions of the training were challenging since the activity would reveal how they are doing financially. There were participants who were hesitant to complete or even start filling out worksheets. Some said that they already know that what they will see is negative net worth.
On the succeeding sessions, participants felt better as they learned about the steps they can take to improve their financial condition. The top two sessions the participants gave the highest ratings were personal finance and emotions (4.85 out of 5) and debt management (4.80 out of 5).
In these sessions, the participants were able to have greater interaction with their colleagues as they took part in workshops and role-playing. They enjoyed the activities since they related to the personal experiences shared.
The training garnered excellent ratings for topics (4.72 out of 5); and delivery (4.81), knowledge (4.82) and overall skills of the resource persons (4.79).
